Out Like a Scout

Last year was busy. I traveled a lot – to Atlanta, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Charlotte, Chicago, DC, and the mountains of far southwest Virginia. I went to a lot of concerts – U2, Kelly Clarkson, Crosby, Stills, & Nash, and Coldplay. I went to a couple of weddings. I saw a lot of friends I hadn’t seen for years. I worked at another band camp and judged another band competition. I moved out of Family Headquarters, and so did two of my three sisters. Sammi graduated and started college. Ginny went back to school. I brought my cat to live with me, and then she got stuck in my ductwork, and then I took her back to HQ, and eventually I ended up with my two new kittens who make every day a little more fun.

I already have a few cool things to look forward to in 2006. In the next few months alone, it looks like I’ll get to see Nada Surf in concert, and also like I’m going to get to go to Las Vegas on business. I think I’ll have another full year ahead of me, and I’m looking forward to telling you all about it as it happens.

For the last few years, I’ve made a secret New Year’s resolution – just one – and at the end of the year, I usually tell people about it.

In 2005 – or, actually, in late 2004 – I began the process (initially, without telling a soul) of moving to a fully hosted actual web site, and hoped that my writing and my readers would survive the process. I thought I knew a lot about websites beforehand, but really, I knew very little. And a lot of the knowledge of HTML and table-based web design I’d learned before became completely useless in this new world of PHP and CSS-based table-free design (and I’m totally a convert, by the way). I’ve learned a ton, and I’m still learning.

It looks like we’ve all turned out okay, so thanks for helping me keep that resolution by reading and participating so faithfully every year. You all really help to make this place such a joy for me.

Happy New Year to you all!

  1. Akemashite omedetoo gozaimasu!! :) I’d say it in Hawaiian too, but I forgot already how to say it.

And yes, CSS is teh awesome. Now you can laugh at the others still using tables. :)
