Lifetime Meme

(passed to me by Ginger, so how could I resist?)

10 years ago: I was at the Virginia Summer Governor’s School for the Humanities at the University of Richmond. I spent the entire month of July on campus with some of the brightest kids in Virginia, writing and learning and participating in “mandatory fun.” It was cool, and scary, and eye-opening. I wish I’d kept in touch with some of those kids.

5 years ago: I was home for the summer before my senior year of college, temping at Ingersoll-Rand during the day and running the manual encoder at Presort Express in the evenings. That was the summer of Busting My Ass All The Time Every Day. I remember being very tired, and rarely doing anything for fun.

1 year ago: I was living at home, working here, helping out with Ginny. Later in the month I would go to New Hampshire and get food poisoning, and then I’d teach at two band camps in a row.

Yesterday: I was battling a sinus headache all day, cleaning some of the crap off my desk, thinking about egg salad and weekend plans.

Today: I need to interview a candidate at 10, clean off some more of my desk, set up a few meetings, straighten up my house and fill a prescription at lunch, and meet friends for margaritas & Mexican food tonight after work.

Tomorrow: I have no plans whatsoever beyond sleeping in. I don’t know if I’ll go home or not. Maybe I will finally get my damn pool key already and go swimming. I don’t know.

5 snacks I enjoy: Turkey Hill ice cream, hummus, applesauce, Lay’s Stax, Chewy Chips Ahoy cookies. I am a carbhound – no need to point out how unhealthy these choices are.

5 bands that I know the lyrics of MOST of their songs: U2, Coldplay, Steely Dan, Ben Folds 5, and, um, Interpol.

5 things I would do with $100,000,000: Pay off my debt and my family’s debt, buy houses & cars for me and my parents and my sisters, give a million dollars each to everyone I love, give several million to schools and other charities, get a financial advisor to help me manage the rest.

5 locations I’d like to run away to: Ireland, Australia, Hawaii, the Caribbean, San Antonio.

5 bad habits I have: procrastination, impatience, moodiness, laziness, gossip.

5 things I like doing: reading, working on this website, listening to music, spending time with my family, going to the movies.

5 things I would never wear: tube tops, Bermuda shorts, tapered jeans, microminis, thong bathing suits.

5 TV shows I like: CSI, Without a Trace, American Idol, Survivor, Lost.

5 movies I like: Almost Famous, High Fidelity, Amelie, Empire Records, Cool Hand Luke.

5 famous people I’d like to meet: Tim Russert, U2 (that’s four but I’m meeting them in a group so I count them as one), Neil Gaiman, Barack Obama, Kelly Clarkson (shut up.).

5 biggest joys at the moment: thinking about seeing a friend tonight I haven’t seen in a while, the fact that it’s Friday, lunch in an hour, my family, Diet Dr. Pepper.

5 favorite toys: as a kid? My Little Pony, Barbies, Cabbage Patch Kids, G.I. Joe, He-Man.

5 people to tag: um, Jessie, Sam, Jamison, Jen, and Mike, because I suspect he thinks he’s above memes and it would be fun if he did one.

  1. Holy crap! I went to Summer Governor’s School at University of Richmond too! I went in 96 though, so I guess I was there a year after you. Wasn’t it awesome? When I got there I was terrified of being away from home that long, but on the last day when my Dad came to pick me up, I was completely hysterical and didn’t want to leave. Ahh, memories. :)
