Pulling Mussels From The Shell

Damn BMG and their sales. On Monday I went on this crazy stock-up-on-CDs spree and ordered the following 7 that I, for some reason, hadn’t gotten yet in my twelve years or so of owning CDs:

  1. The Clash – London Calling
  2. The Doors – The Doors
  3. John Coltrane – A Love Supreme
  4. Joni Mitchell – Blue
  5. Cream – The Very Best of Cream
  6. Derek & the Dominos – Layla
  7. The Carpenters – Singles 1969 – 1981

And I got all of those for less than $35, including shipping. Very awesome. I want them to arrive now. Actually, I especially want them to get here before Saturday, when Sam and I are driving to Philadelphia to see U2. I bought those tickets in January – it’s a combination 18th birthday & graduation gift for her, and it’ll be a cool thing for us because we’re both big fans and, as I think I’ve mentioned, have never seem them live.

You know what’s awesome? AAA. I joined finally, mainly because I booked the AAA rate at our Philadelphia hotel and wanted to make sure I was actually a member by then so I could get the discount, but then there’s the whole roadside assistance thing, so, nice bonus. Last week I went online there and entered in our trip information, and yesterday I got this big fat package with maps and tour guides and this cool little notebook with point-by-point directions and logs and all kinds of cool stuff. Ooh, and a bookmark.

My parents are in Dallas this week, and so I’ve been playing Fake Single Mom since Monday. It’s actually going surprisingly smoothly – the house is still clean, everyone’s been dropped off and picked up as needed, and we’ve had no TiVo disasters. Ginny’s helping a lot, and my Nanie made dinner last night which was also a huge help, and she’s been letting the dogs out during the day which is good since none of us works close enough to go take care of that. I even remembered to water the garden, which is the main thing I was afraid I’d forget. We’ve got a little routine going and things are good.

So, I’ve probably joined and quit MySpace five times in the last couple of years. Someone will tell me I should join, and then I will, and then I’ll get too many emails or none of my friends will be there or I’ll use Friendster more, and then I get bored and I quit. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. But now all the cool kids seem to be on MySpace again and I feel left out and so I joined again because I want to be cool too. So, I’m there. You can make me a friend if we’re friends. If you’re reading, we’re probably friends. Actually, you should wait an hour and then make us friends, since I just now started to make a profile or whatever.

I need to eat some lunch and maybe go visit some apartments and what I really want to do is go to Target and get some new pants but I think I won’t do that. Lunch and apartments, though, definitely. Except maybe not apartments. Maybe just lunch.

  1. Interesting tune selection: I’ve played numbers from the Doors (Love Me Two Times), Joni (Twisted), Cream (Sunshine of Your Love), and Derek (Layla) in a retro club band.

  2. Get a Flickr Pro account and express yourself in pictures.

Two CDs you must own (that I bought over the weekend): the new M83 and Eagles of Death Metal.

  3. Philly is my side of town. I could direct you to some cool places. Like Monks, The Continental, Denim, Coyote Ugly, Rittenhouse square bars and restaurants, south street must sees, museums, etc. Have a great time.
