Awards Season

Nominations for the Sixth Annual Weblog Awards (Bloggies) are open until 10:00 p.m. Eastern time tomorrow (January 10th). Of all the various weblog awards that are made up and given out each year, I’d say the Bloggies are probably the most “legitimate,” so to speak, and being recognized in this way means a lot to many bloggers.

For the record, this is most certainly not a not-so-subtle ploy to get you to nominate me. There are lots of really awesome blogs out there and I know a lot of you spend many hours every week being entertained by several of the very best blogs on the Internet. This is a really good opportunity for you to make someone’s day/week/whatever, and I intend to nominate some seriously kickass writers and sites for awards.

Happy nominating!

  1. That comment reads weird. I just meant, thank you for posting that it’s now time to vote — otherwise I would have missed the opportunity. :)

  2. OH MY GOD, YOU HAVE TOTALLY RENDERED ME INSANELY JEALOUS WITH YOUR BADASS DESIGN. Damn you, Lorie, and your mad CSS skillz.

  3. Seriously, this is really wicked cool. I came back just to admire it. How did you do the texture? And the stitching? Am I not spending enough quality time with Photoshop?

  4. thanks! I’m pretty happy with it too. I’m using Paint Shop Pro X right now. The background layer is a custom texture (based on squares, scaled to 40% and tilted at an angle just a teeny bit) with a base color that’s closer to the strongest pink on this page than anything else, but it’s something like 60% transparent with a fadeback gradient so it looks lighter. The thread is just a picture tube and so is the flower. Honestly, the hardest thing was probably keeping a steady hand so the stitching looked uniform – oddly, or maybe not, this is also why I suck at sewing in real life.
